785 million people lack access to clean water which means more people die a year from drinking dirty water than all forms of violence combined. 2.4 billion people lack access to proper sanitation which means Poor sanitation is linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio and exacerbates stunting.
WHO ARE "BLUE MISSIONS" ?

Blue Missions is dedicated to improving public health by providing families with clean water and sanitary environments. Through sustainable, community-owned projects, their team works with locals to empower progress and transform rural communities for the better. They allow volunteers to travel with with them to lend a hand in the construction of these projects in order to educate them about global inequality and inspire them to become the change-makers of the future.

OUR PART:

Wanaroam partnered with Blue Missions for an Adventure Trek Mission trip, where we Trekked to the top of Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean, with BLUE Missions to provide families in the Dominican Republic with access to clean water and sanitation.

 ✔ Hike 3-days across 27.6 miles of tropical and pine forests to the summit of Pico Duarte, at 10,128 ft. above sea level.
 ✔ Travel to a community that BLUE has worked with to overcome the water crisis and spend a few hours connecting with the locals.

By participating on our trek, volunteers helped connect at least 10 people with access to clean water by reaching the minimum fundraising commitment of $250. 100% of this fundraised amount goes directly to the field towards the construction of a water system in a rural community. 
DID YOU KNOW?

For every 100 Dominican children entering formal education, only 75 complete grade 4; 63 complete grade 6 and only 52 complete the 8-year primary level. This situation is even worse in rural areas where most schools stop at grade 5." 
WHO ARE "CHILDREN OF DR" ?

Children of DR is a Non-Profit Organization that provides clothing, school supplies, food, and toys to children of the Dominican Republic living in poverty. Thanks to Children of DR, 100 children from infants to 15-year-olds went home with toys, school supplies, backpacks and notebooks equipped with coloring books, clothes, and shoes last year.
OUR PART:
Last year, Wanaroam partnered with Children of DR, donating a percentage of our proceeds to the Non-Profit to help provide clothing, school supplies, food, and toys to children of the Dominican Republic living in poverty.
